Dr. Atul Mathur is the executive director of Interventional Cardiology, chief of the Cath Lab at Fortis Escort Heart Institute, New Delhi, and president of the Indian Council for Carotid Therapeutics India.
He is a highly respected Interventional Cardiologist with over 34 years of experience.
After completing his MBBS in 1983, he earned his MD in 1987 from SMS Medical College, Jaipur, Rajasthan. He later completed his DM in 1991 from AIIMS, Delhi.
He is a pioneer in complex coronary procedures, including mitral valve replacement, congenital heart surgery, ventricular septal defect surgery, and more.
He also specializes in Endovascular (Carotid stenting, Aortic Graft Stenting, Peripheral arterial and venous Angioplasty) and Structural heart (TAVR, Mitra Clip, LAAO, BMV, Adult VSD closure) interventions.
In 1999, he was the first Indian doctor to obtain a US patent for a medical device used in Carotid Artery Stenting.
Dr. Mathur has also received two prestigious fellowships in Interventional Cardiology from Royal Perth Hospital, Western Australia, and Centre Hospitalier Universitaire De Rouen, France.
In addition to performing thousands of procedures, he has created a center for excellence, which organizes courses to train Indian physicians in carotid interventions year after year.
Several hundred research publications are also included in his contributions and have been acknowledged by experts nationally and internationally.
He performed Several procedures for the first time in the country that are now followed elsewhere.
His training and work experience at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, United States, significantly contributed to his present profile.
